Not a trick. A look at what actually moves the needle on your profile.

There's a lot of confident advice online about photos and reviews, and not much of it is specific. So here's the honest version: photos don't directly cause reviews. What they do is change how much someone engages with your profile before they ever set foot inside, and that engagement is the same behaviour that precedes both a visit and a review.
If you're chasing reviews as the goal, photography is one lever among several. If you're trying to build a Google Business Profile that actually converts, which tends to produce more reviews as a side effect, it's one of the most direct ones you control.
What a complete profile actually does
Google's own guidance is consistent on this point: businesses with more photos and richer profiles, including virtual tours, tend to get more direction requests, more calls and more website clicks from their Business Profile than businesses relying on a handful of phone snaps. More of those actions happening means more customers who actually visit, and a customer who visited is the only kind who can honestly leave a review.
In other words, photos don't ask for the review. They increase the number of real visits that could eventually lead to one.
Where a virtual tour goes further than photos
A static photo gets a glance. A virtual tour gets explored, and the engagement time that follows is a stronger signal to Google that your profile is worth surfacing, and a stronger reassurance to the customer that you're a real, active, well-kept business worth trusting with their time.
It also gives you a natural reason to ask. A customer who has just walked through your enhanced tour online, then visited and had a good experience, is an easy person to prompt: you've already seen the place online, mind leaving us a review too?
Turning a good visit into an actual review
None of this replaces simply asking. The single most effective habit is asking a happy customer directly, at the moment they're happiest, with the least possible friction - a QR code at the till, a link in a follow-up text or email, not a vague sign asking people to find you on Google.
Photography and tours do the earlier work: getting the right, well-matched customer through the door in the first place. A polished, honest profile attracts people who are already inclined to like what they find, and those are the customers most likely to leave a good review without being chased.
Questions people ask
Should I add new photos regularly, or is a one-off shoot enough?
Both matter. A professional shoot gets your baseline right; refreshing it when your space changes (a refurbishment, a new menu, a seasonal display) keeps the profile looking active, which Google and customers both notice.
Do customer-submitted photos help or hurt?
They help, but they don't replace professional photography. Customer photos add authenticity and volume; your own professional set is what a first-time visitor sees before they've decided to trust you enough to visit and take their own.
