How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Business

Nobody leaves a review by accident. Someone has to ask, at the right moment.

Nobody leaves a Google review by accident. Even a genuinely delighted customer usually needs a small nudge, because leaving a review takes a minute they weren't planning to spend, and that minute only happens if asking is easy and well-timed.

Here's what actually works, based on real habits rather than growth-hack folklore.

  • Ask at the moment someone's happiest, not days later in a generic email blast
  • Remove every possible step: a direct link or QR code, not 'search us on Google'
  • Personal asks from staff convert far better than a sign by the till
  • Never buy, incentivise or fake reviews, Google actively penalises this and it's easy to spot

Timing beats almost everything else

The best moment to ask is the moment someone's happiest with you, right after a great appointment, immediately after a delivery lands well, at the till when a customer's clearly pleased. Asking days later by email, once the feeling's faded into the background of their week, converts at a fraction of the rate.

Remove every point of friction

'Please find us on Google and leave a review' asks someone to search, find the right listing, and navigate to the review box themselves, three chances to give up. A direct link, sent by text or included on a receipt, or a QR code at the point of sale, takes them straight there. The gap between those two approaches in actual completed reviews is large.

A personal ask outperforms a sign

A member of staff asking directly, by name, converts better than any passive sign or poster ever will, because it turns the ask into a small personal favour rather than a generic marketing request easily ignored. Train the team to ask happy customers directly, and give them the easiest possible way to actually do it.

Questions people ask

Is it against Google's rules to ask for reviews?

No, asking is fine and encouraged. What's against the rules, and actively penalised, is offering incentives for reviews, gating which customers get asked based on how happy they seem, or buying fake ones.

What's the easiest tool for making the ask frictionless?

A QR code linking directly to your review box, on a receipt, a till-point card or a follow-up text. See our guide on getting a QR code for Google reviews for the exact setup.

Does responding to existing reviews help generate new ones?

Indirectly, yes. A profile with thoughtful responses to existing reviews signals an actively managed business, which itself encourages more customers to bother leaving one.

I used Biztour to get virtual tours done of all our coworking spaces and I am so pleased with how they turned out! They were super communicative, and really flexible to help us hit our deadlines.
