How to Respond to Google Reviews (With Examples)

Specific and personal beats polished and generic, every time.

A copy-pasted 'Thank you for your feedback!' reply is worse than no reply at all, it signals nobody's actually reading these. A good response is specific to what the reviewer actually said, genuinely personal, and short enough that it doesn't read as corporate box-ticking.

Here's what that looks like in practice, drawn from how we respond to our own reviews.

  • Reference something specific from the review, never a generic template
  • Thank the reviewer by name and keep it short
  • Reply to every review, not just the five-star ones
  • A distinct, consistent voice across replies reads as a real person, not a policy

What makes a reply actually land

Specificity is the whole trick. When a client mentioned their practice was 'meticulously cleaned' before a shoot, our reply picked up on exactly that detail rather than a generic thank you, because referencing the actual thing they said proves someone genuinely read it. A reply that could be pasted under any review, from any business, is the one people notice as fake.

A real example

One of our own reviews, from a client whose warehouse tour we shot, reads: 'Their attention to detail was impeccable and we are already seeing a huge increase of interest from our clients to come and visit in person.' Our reply picked up their specific result, the increase in interest, and thanked them by name, rather than a blanket 'thanks for choosing us'.

Difficult reviews need the same specificity, just calmer

A critical review deserves the same attention to detail, acknowledging the specific issue raised, not a defensive generic statement. Calm, specific and brief beats long and defensive every time, both for the original reviewer and for anyone else reading it later, which is most of the actual audience for a review reply.

Questions people ask

Should we reply to every single review, even short ones?

Yes, ideally. Even a brief 'Thank you, [name]!' on a short review keeps the pattern of an actively managed profile consistent, which matters more than any individual reply.

How quickly should we respond?

Within a few days is a reasonable standard. Prompt replies to negative reviews specifically matter more, since other readers judge how a business handles a problem in something close to real time.

Can we see real examples of how Biztour replies to its own reviews?

I used Biztour to get virtual tours done of all our coworking spaces and I am so pleased with how they turned out! They were super communicative, and really flexible to help us hit our deadlines.
