What Is a Google Street View Trusted Photographer (And Why It Matters)

The credential that determines whether your tour meets Google's own quality bar.

Google Street View Trusted Photographer is a real, specific accreditation, not a marketing phrase. It means a photographer has been vetted by Google and equipped to shoot, stitch and publish 360 imagery that meets Google's own technical and quality standards for Street View and Business Profiles.

We've held it since 2013, when we were among the first in the UK to be approved. It's worth understanding what it actually covers, because not every provider claiming a Google tour genuinely holds it.

  • A real Google accreditation, not a self-applied label
  • Covers technical standards for stitching, resolution and publishing quality
  • Determines whether your tour is eligible to appear on your Business Profile at all
  • Biztour has held it since 2013, among the first in the UK

What the programme actually checks

Google's Trusted Photographer status isn't handed out for owning a 360 camera. It requires demonstrating that captured imagery meets specific technical standards, resolution, stitching quality, correct metadata, so that the finished tour publishes cleanly to Google Maps and Search without errors or rejected uploads.

In practice this is what stands between a tour that looks fine on your laptop and one that actually appears correctly on your live Business Profile, where the technical requirements are stricter than they look from the outside.

Why it matters for the tour you end up with

A tour published by a non-accredited provider might use Google's platform in name, but hasn't been vetted against Google's own bar for quality. That can mean lower resolution, stitching artefacts at scene joins, or a tour that simply doesn't publish the way it should. The accreditation is Google's own filter for who gets to build directly on their infrastructure.

It's also not a one-off badge, it reflects an ongoing standard the photographer is expected to keep meeting.

How to check a provider genuinely holds it

Ask directly, and ask how long they've held it. A provider who's vague about the answer, or describes it as 'Google-certified' without the specific Trusted Photographer term, is worth a second question. It's a checkable credential, not a matter of taking someone's word for it.

Questions people ask

Is Street View Trusted Photographer the same as being a Matterport partner?

No, they're separate accreditations for separate platforms. Street View Trusted Photographer covers Google's own tour format; Matterport service partner status is a distinct credential for 3D capture. Biztour holds both.

Does the accreditation cost me anything extra?

No, it's not a pass-through fee, it's simply the standard our tours are shot and published to as part of the price you already see on our pricing page.

Can anyone technically publish a tour to Google Maps?

Google allows self-published imagery in some cases, but a Trusted Photographer's work is held to Google's own quality bar during capture and publishing, which is a meaningfully different standard.
