What Makes a Great Corporate Video

Built to please the committee, not the audience, is the usual failure mode.

Most corporate video fails for a specific, avoidable reason: it's built to please everyone internally who has to sign off on it, which produces something safe, comprehensive and largely unwatchable. The videos people actually finish watching are usually the ones built around one clear message for one specific audience, not an attempt to cover everything at once.

  • One clear message for one specific audience, not an attempt to cover everything
  • A genuine hook in the first five seconds, most viewers decide whether to keep watching almost immediately
  • Real people and real spaces outperform generic stock footage and stock narration every time
  • Short and focused beats long and comprehensive for almost every actual use case

The committee problem

Corporate video briefs often accumulate requirements from every stakeholder who needs to approve the final cut, our values, our history, our range, our team, our awards, until the video is trying to say everything and lands saying very little to the person actually watching it. The better approach is choosing one message and cutting everything that doesn't directly serve it, even when that means leaving out something someone internally wanted included.

The first five seconds decide everything

Most viewers make an almost instant decision about whether to keep watching, so a slow logo animation or a generic scene-setting shot before anything actually happens is losing the audience before the real content has even started. Open with something specific and real, not a warm-up.

Real beats generic, every time

Footage of your actual space, your actual team, your actual work, consistently outperforms stock footage dressed up with a voiceover, because audiences can tell the difference even when they couldn't articulate why. This is true even when the stock footage is technically higher production value, authenticity does work that polish alone can't.

Questions people ask

How long should a corporate video be?

Shorter than most businesses instinctively want, 60 to 90 seconds for most website and social use cases, with a longer version reserved for a specific context like an investor deck or a detailed onboarding need.

Should we script the video word for word?

A clear structure and key messages, yes. Word-for-word scripts for anyone speaking on camera tend to sound stilted, real, slightly imperfect delivery usually reads as more trustworthy.

I used Biztour to get virtual tours done of all our coworking spaces and I am so pleased with how they turned out! They were super communicative, and really flexible to help us hit our deadlines.
