Enhanced vs standalone virtual tours

Standalone means the tour lives on your own site rather than inside Google's ecosystem. It is a question about where the tour works hardest, not about image quality, and the honest answer for most businesses is that you want both.

The short answer

Choose an enhanced Google tour

  • Discovery matters: you want people finding you on Maps
  • You want one asset doing both jobs
  • You want a one-time cost with no platform fees
  • Local search is a meaningful source of enquiries
See an enhanced Google tour

Choose a standalone or bespoke tour

  • The tour must match your brand exactly
  • You need integrations: CRM, booking, analytics
  • The experience matters more than local discovery
  • You want total control over navigation and content

The trade is discovery against control

A Google-published tour is found by people who were not looking for you specifically. Someone searches for a gym nearby, your listing appears with a tour attached, and they step inside before they have visited your website. That is discovery you cannot buy back once you have opted out of it.

A standalone tour is not discoverable in the same way, but everything about it is yours: the interface, the branding, the navigation, the integrations. For businesses where the experience is the differentiator, that control is worth more than the Maps placement.

Why most clients end up with both

The two are not mutually exclusive, and the capture is shared. A Google tour handles discovery while an enhanced or bespoke version handles the experience on your own site. You are paying once for the shoot and twice for the layers, which is considerably cheaper than two separate projects.

Bespoke builds start at £4,000 because the interface is designed and built from scratch. If you are weighing that against an enhanced tour at £495 on top of the base rate, the question is whether a custom interface genuinely changes what visitors do.

Questions people ask

Can one shoot feed both a Google tour and a standalone tour?

Yes, and it usually should. The 360 capture is the expensive part; publishing it to Google and building a separate branded experience from the same imagery costs far less than commissioning two shoots.

Do I lose the Google listing if I go standalone?

Not necessarily. You can publish to Google and run a standalone tour alongside it. The only reason not to publish is if you specifically want the tour kept off public platforms.

Can a standalone tour be kept private?

Yes. A tour that is not published to Google can sit behind a password or on an unlisted URL, which suits manufacturers, private clubs and anyone running supplier audits rather than marketing.

I used Biztour to get virtual tours done of all our coworking spaces and I am so pleased with how they turned out! They were super communicative, and really flexible to help us hit our deadlines.
